Numeracy at Aldercourt Primary

At Aldercourt Primary School, our Numeracy curriculum is designed around research-based, evidence-driven practices. We aim to make maths real and relevant to students by connecting lessons to their lives, ensuring they engage in hands-on, visual learning experiences.

We use the "I do, We do, You do" model, where teachers demonstrate, guide, and then allow students to practice independently, with continuous checks for understanding throughout the lesson.

Our students are encouraged to talk about and practice math strategies, where mistakes are seen as part of the learning process. This builds resilience and strengthens their knowledge. By using real-world problems and hands-on materials, students not only enhance their understanding but also gain practical skills that will serve them in everyday life.

We recognise that each student has different learning needs, so our teaching teams collaborate to provide targeted instruction in small groups. This enables students to receive the individual support they need to deepen their understanding. Teachers also track progress through various units of learning and celebrate students' growth, which is one of the most rewarding aspects of our approach.

In addition, our teachers are continuously improving their skills through professional learning teams, ensuring that we consistently use the best strategies to maximize the impact on our students’ learning and confidence.

At Aldercourt, we are committed to setting our students up for success in Numeracy, now and in the future.
