Student Wellbeing at Aldercourt P.S
When we feel well, we can learn well.
At Aldercourt Primary School, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every student can thrive with the right support and time.
Our whole-school approach incorporates trauma-informed practices that help students feel calm, present, and ready to learn. We foster an orderly, safe, and supportive learning environment to ensure every child can achieve success.
As part of our commitment to student wellbeing, we implement the Berry Street Education Model and Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships programs. These models form the foundation of our learning, teaching, and wellbeing strategies.
We also have a dedicated Wellbeing Team of highly trained specialists who work closely with students, staff, and families to provide the best possible support every day.
To give you an insight into our approach, here are some key strategies we use across the school:
Our ZEN DEN is a dedicated space where students can talk, relax, and feel comfortable. It provides a calm and supportive environment for students who need time to recharge and feel safe.
Unconditional Positive Regard
Unconditional Positive Regard means accepting and supporting students exactly as they are. We believe every child has the personal resources within them to succeed.
Brain Breaks
To maximize learning and engagement, we incorporate regular ‘brain breaks’ throughout the day. These fun, stimulating activities help students stay motivated and self-regulate when needed.
Ready to Learn Plans
A Ready to Learn Plan is a personalized agreement between a student and their teacher. It provides self-regulation and de-escalation strategies to help students return to the “learning zone” when needed.
